Technovation Challenge:

Hoopla created by the Quintets.

Hoopla Logo:

One of our member only worked on this because she loves photoshop, but she would always ask for our opinion. For example, if we didn't like something she would ask and at the end we all agreed to this logo. We just wanted something simple and so that's why the smile is there under the two "oo'.

Pitch Video Of Hoopla

Technovation's Mission: We inspire girls to become creators and innovators. Through Technovation Challenge, high school and middle school girls learn to program mobile phone apps that solve problems in their lives and community.

We started off by discussing ideas of what kind of app the community needs. We came up with many ideas and then we finally decided that our app would focus on assisting students in their extracurricular activities to be more organized. Our team was currently made up of five members, so we named the team "The Quintets" which means five.  Then came up naming the app, and we went for "Hoopla" which means excitement.  So we wanted our users to be excited by our wonderful application.

In this pitch video you will see why we made the app, description of the app, how easy it is to use our app in which I talked about in the video and who would be our marketing targets. I feel like this was a great experience for me, because I never imagine myself making an app and doing all the coding which is awesome to know I am capable of and I am going to try this challenge again next year. Now that I have more experience, I think we as a team, have more of a chance to succeed with our next application.

We were also suppose to do a business plan of our application Hoopla, we divided the worked into five sections, so we can finish faster and each member was assigned a section. In the business plan we had the executive summary where we describe the team, team's mission, objectives, key to success, product, market and competitive edge. Each of those topics were explained in a small paragraph.

The next part was the product description, this one was a big one because we had to describe the application and all the features of Hoopla. We also included a chart we did in the first weeks, where we had planned what our application features would be. This chart helped us a lot.

The third part was the company summary which I was in charge of, I had to write about how to start the company for it to be successful. Also who were the founders of the company and where they were located.

The forth part of the business plan was market analysis, it discuss who the app would be for and competition&Buying Patterns, which were some application almost like ours just that they focus on big companies and we would focus more on high school students, clubs/teams and colleagues.

Finally, the last part was the strategy&implement plan that focus on competitive edge, marketing strategy, sales strategy and milestones.

The business plan was actually the one that took us the longest to make which was like two week, this includes our two mentors revising it. I actually felt confident because I had experienced working on the Team 597's business plan, so it wasn't my first time.

This is the prototype of our application Hoopla, we created this way before coding the app so we can know how it would look like. I worked on the whole section of the  Group Broadcast (Chat, Notes, Media and Fan Broadcast) and Attendance (Check into Meetings, Check into Trainings, Calendar, Deadlines, Special Events and Attendance Tally).  This was actually the fun part of the project for me because it was designing the application.
